QMEA and Moranbah State High School lead National Education
Through the Qld Minerals and Energy Academy, thirteen students at Moranbah State High School in Central Qld, are the first graduates in Australia to achieve a Certificate II in Resource & Infrastructure Work Preparation.
This qualification, from the recently endorsed RII09 – Resource and Infrastructure Industry Training Package, developed by SkillsDMC, provides the students with the skills and knowledge required by industry to commence a safe and productive career pathway in the resources sector.
All of these students had already gained a Certificate I in Resource & Infrastructure Operations earlier in their schooling, and had participated in a range of additional industry learning opportunities. These include structured work placements at the local BMA, Anglo and Macarthur Coal mines, as well as further study and work experience through the Mining Industry Skills Centre - Work Readiness program.
The students have participated in a two day a week program at the Coalfields Training Excellence Centre (CTEC) in Moranbah for the last eighteen months, where they have also completed a Certificate II in Engineering qualification.
The students were very keen to study the additional units of competency required for them to secure another qualification in their senior studies resume.
The Coalfields Excellence Training Centre (CTEC) is an industry standard facility which enables students to participate in the theory aspects, as well as the practical activities required in the course, to complement their site based assessments.
The training package developed by SkillsDMC, has been designed in consultation with industry to equip participants with a working knowledge of the risk assessment, hazard management, communication and work procedures to be able to contribute safely to the general operations of an organisation as soon as they arrive on site.
Moranbah State High School would like to acknowledge the support of this program from: Dorothy Rao - SkillsDMC, Delaney Nugent – Qld Minerals and Energy Academy, Samantha Curran – Trainer, CTEC – John Joyce, MISC – Resources Industry Training Fund , Anglo – Moranbah North, BMA – Peak Downs, Goonyella Riverside and Broadmeadow mines, and Macarthur Coal – Coppabella Mine.
