Welcome from Chair

January 2010

Image Ray Barker Chariman of SkillsDMCWelcome to the new SkillsDMC (Resources & Infrastructure Industry Skills Council) website. It has been a transient time for the resources and infrastructure sectors. The past 12 months have seen our sectors face challenging times and come out the other side in a very strong position.

It has been a period of great change. The impact of the global financial crisis has been felt strongly through all sectors of our industry. This has been a time for industry to streamline their workforce and develop the skills of existing workers. Our industry is again having to look at how to manage the lack of skilled workers as the recovery strengthens. Throughout this time, SkillsDMC has continued to support and work with industry in all regions of Australia.

SkillsDMC continues to be dedicated to making every effort to provide our industry sectors with the advice, products and services required to look to the future and continue to build our industry.  These activities are focused on SkillsDMC partnering with all sectors of industry to focus on areas such as workforce planning, attraction and training of new entrants through VET in schools and from the rural, remote and Indigenous communities.

Our goal at SkillsDMC is to provide leadership in the areas in which we excel, such as our systems approach to implement competency based training, and the development and implementation of workforce plans that will ensure the ongoing viability and capability of organisations. The era of performance related education and training continues to grow and we at SkillsDMC, along with our industry and VET stakeholders, are well placed and primed to meet the challenges for the future.

There is no doubt there is still an ongoing need for accurate, good quality and real time labour force data. Our industries are too important to the future of the Australian economy and its workforce. SkillsDMC continues to be committed to developing tools and products specifically for this purpose.

I commend you to get in touch with the SkillsDMC national team at your earliest convenience to get more information on how we can help your organisation focus on the future. You can use the Contact SkillsDMC (located on the right hand side menu) section of this website to locate your nearest regional office.

May I also take this opportunity to thank all of our industry stakeholders and subject matter experts who provide valuable inputs to all our projects. I would also like to extend my thanks to the Board of Directors, Alternates and Association Officers for their ongoing support over the past number of years.
